PROVO, Utah — Power is back on for nearly 20 thousand customers who were affected by an outage in Utah County on Friday afternoon.
Power has been restored to all customers in Cedar Fort, Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs, UT, as of 2:22 pm. The cause of the outage was due to a damaged line. Rocky Mountain Power tweeted the cause of the Utah County outage was traced to a damaged power line. Later, RMP Spokesman Dave Eskelsen told KSL the power outage began around 1:17 p.m. and affected the Eagle Mountain area’s Park Side and Pony Express substations.
“We found a track hoe had made contact with a transmission line between those two substations,” Eskelson said. The power was out for just over an hour.
“The transmission line supplies energy to both of those substations,” he said. When the line was interrupted, power was turned off to both substations as a precaution.
“Circuit breakers in substations are much like the circuit breaker in your house. If it registers a fault, the circuit breaker will open, stopping the flow of electricity for safety,” he said.
